Johnson discussed him and his team’s work with the community, conditions that led to the Dixie Hills unrest, his belief in the impact of SNCC agitations, and race relations within the department itself. Notably, Johnson believed the unrest to be a positive as, in his view, it jolted the city to action. Pride felt that Johnson’s view was mostly accurate, though cast skepticism on Johnson’s optimistic take on racial equity within the APD .
